Nail Guns - 3 Tips Before Buying
By Leslie Pinczi

Nail guns help you get bigger home projects that require lots of nails and hammering done in just a fraction of the time. There are many different guns that do different jobs. And there are lots of different brands to select from in the marketplace. So which one is right for you? Here are 4 tips to consider before purchasing.

Nail Guns

Tip 1 - Read reviews on websites, newspapers, magazines, etc about what types are available and how people are using them in different projects. This will give you a starting point if you are not sure where to begin. Reviews help you better understand what features you might need. Also, you'll quickly find out which brand is the most popular, reliable, low maintenance, etc. Keep the brand name in mind when shopping at hardware stores.

Tip 2 - Purpose of nail gun? Think about your project. Do you need a compact model for hard to reach places, overhead work, etc? Or do you need a very basic model without all the technology and features? You need to think about the purpose. Basic models will probably serve 99% of your home improvement projects very well and they can cost significantly less than other models.

Don't forget there are 3 different types of nail guns. A framing nailer is used in bigger jobs such as constructing house frames. A finishing nailer is suited to cabinetry and furniture work. And finally a roofing nailer is best for roofing work, obviously.

Tip 3 - Don't forget to compare prices. Nail guns are precision made tools and as such they are not inexpensive. However, you can save up to a hundred dollars or more by comparing prices with all the major hardware stores - some stores run specials on older or discontinued models. Another tip is to buy at the end of summer since demand for such tools is in the warmer months when home construction and home improvement jobs are done. Usually hardware stores have sales at the end of summer.
