Beautiful Nails With Gel Nails
Gel nails are a great way to have naturally long looking nails without naturally growing them yourself. It is also a great way to have your nails looking just the way you’ve always wanted. It is also odor-less and maintaining it is relatively easy. And contrary to popular belief, gel nails are not lumpy, but have a polished and smooth finish.
Gel nails are applied via a pre-mixed polymer and monomer gel that is applied to the nails then cured under ultraviolet lights. This is the light-cured type. The other type is the no-light gels type which are cured by dipping it in water or brushing or spraying another special gel activator onto the nail. The benefit of the no-light gels is less time waiting for the gel to cure and not needing the light (equipment) anymore.
Because of the way gel nails are applied, you will need to have your nails refilled less often than compared to acrylic nails. However, the best way to maintain gel nails is to see your nail technician every few weeks to do fill ins if necessary and to check for any signs of the gel nail lifting off. Another important reminder when it comes to gel nails is keeping your nails healthy. By having regular visits to your nail technician, the nail technician can prevent infections on your real nail by removing water or any debris that becomes trapped under the gel nail.
When you are ready to remove the gel nail completely, have an experienced nail technician do it for you, because it is hard to do it yourself. You’ll want to avoid damaging your cuticle and the natural nail and only an experienced nail technician will know how.
Like everything else, there are also some noticeable disadvantages of having gel nails. They don’t last as long and are said to be less durable than acrylic nails. Learning to apply gel nails takes time and is more of an art than a science so learning to do it yourself at home will take some time.
Lastly, the biggest disadvantage of gel nails is when it breaks. When it does, most of the time gel nails shatter than break cleanly into pieces. So self-fixing it isn’t an option and the only way to have it fixed is a quick appointment to your nail technician. However, when it does break cleanly, simple nail glue can be used to put it back in place. Remember to have a nails manicure right after removing your gel nails.
