Natural Nails

Many women have a hard time growing natural nails to the length they desire. It is thought that long nails are feminine, and therefore all women should have them. If long nails always seem to be a wish and not a reality for you, here are a few tips on how to make your nails more feminine and still a sporty length.

Filing the nails on the sides and underneath should not be done. This will stunt the growth of the nail and can actually cause bacterial growth between the nail and the nail bed or finger. Keeping the nails clean will help to keep this a distant possibility.
When filing the nails, always go from one side to the other; and not back and forth. This roughs up the nail and can cause catches or snags in the nail. For the best nail health, always use a fine nail file to work on the nail first. This does not take off length from the nail, but helps to shape and get rid of burs or snags. There is less of a chance of creating pits in the nail edges when a fine nail file is used.
Painting on a French manicure will create the illusion of longer nails, as will lighter colored lacquers. Light pinks and beige, yellow and cream colors will make the nail appear longer. The French manicure should only be done if the nail extends past the nail bed. If the nail bed can be seen, it is best to use a light colored paint and a topcoat.
